Heathrow Airport in Great Britain closed on Friday after a fire in a nearby electric substation caused a blackout, airport officials said.
“Heathrow is experiencing a significant energy switch throughout the airport due to a large fire in a nearby electrical substation. While firefighters respond to the incident, we have no clarity about when energy can be restored reliably,” said a Heathrow spokesman.
“We expect significant interruption in the next few days and passengers should not travel to the airport under any circumstance until the airport reopens,” said the spokesman.
The airport will remain closed up to at least 11:59 pm local time on Friday.
