The United States Attorney General PAM Bondi said Thursday that three defendants accused of vandalism aimed at the ELON Musk Electric Vehicle Company could face up to 20 years in prison.
Bondi said that damage to Tesla cars, dealers and load stations were equivalent to domestic terrorism.
Prosecutors previously announced arrests and charges against the three suspects.
Tesla dealers throughout the country have been attacked in a wave of protests, but also vandalism and attacks with caused fires, in response to Musk’s influence on the Trump administration.
There is no specific law of the United States against domestic terrorism, but prosecutors can request longer prison sentences if convicted criminals have a reason related to terror.

The third, Daniel Clarke-Pinder, 24, was accused of fire caused after allegedly throwing Molotov cocktails at Tesla’s load stations in North Charleston, South Carolina, and clicking the parking lot.
In a statement, Bondi said: “The days of committing crimes without consequences have ended.
“That this is a warning: if you join this wave of domestic terrorism against Tesla Properties, the Department of Justice will put it behind bars.”
The attorney general said that the three suspects could face between five and 20 years in prison if he is convicted.
