Governor of Florida Ron desantisA Republican said Friday that the State was returning more than $ 878 million to the federal government that had been trying to pay during the last years during the Biden administration.
The Desantis office informed the United States Department of the Treasury that $ 878,112,000 would be returned to the Federal Government.

“For years, Florida has been trying to return federal funds to the federal government due to the ideological strings attached to the Biden administration, but they could not even discover how to accept it,” Desantis wrote on Friday in X.

“Today I met with @elonmusk and Doge’s team, and we did it the same day,” he continued.
Desantis suggested that other states “should follow Florida to support Doge’s efforts!”
The governor’s office said in his email to the Treasury Department that will seek additional federal funds that can be returned.
“In the direction of Governor Desantis and after its meeting with Elon Musk today, the state of Florida formally returns $ 878,112,000 in dollars of taxpayers to the federal government as part of Doge’s efforts,” said the email. “We will also continue to identify other unused federal funds or surpluses granted to Florida and determine if additional refunds can be made. We hope that our actions will serve as a model for other states to continue.”

Musk, who also serves as the main advisor of President Donald Trump, responded to the governor’s position in X.
“Almost one billion dollars in the money of his taxpayer saved,” Musk said on the social media platform.

“Florida has established the standard for fiscally conservative governance, and our new Florida Doge working group will do even more to serve the people of Florida,” said Desantis at that time. “It will eliminate redundant joints and commissions, review the operations and expenses of the State University and the University, use artificial intelligence to thoroughly examine state agencies to discover hidden waste and even audit the expense habits of local entities to illuminate waste and swelling.”
