Heavyweight boxing legend dies 76, says the family

The legend of the heavy weight of boxing, George Foreman, died at age 76, according to his family.

Foreman, known as Big George in the ring, competed for decades from the 1960s, winning gold in the Olympic Games and numerous title belts, including the world title of heavyweight twice.

His first professional loss reached another icon: Muhammad Ali in an iconic 1974 fight.

“Our hearts are broken,” said his family in a statement published on Instagram. “A devout preacher, a devout husband, a loving father and a great and great -grandfather, lived a life marked by a faith, humility and unwavering purpose.”

While it was a family name in his athletic career, Foreman also became known for his iconic George Foreman Grill, which millions have bought during the decades since he reached the market in 1994.

Foreman has a dozen children, many of whom called “George.”

He explained on his website that he named them that “they always had something in common.”

“I tell you: ‘If one of us goes up, then we all go up together,” he explained. “And if one falls, we all go down together!”
