Grateful Dead The founding member Bobby Weir is one of the last men in his legendary rock band.
The idea of mortality has crossed Weir’s mind, since he has seen many of his band’s members pass.
Despite having lived a life full of music and memories, Weir’s feeling was not fear, but of acceptance.

“Every day, things change. I will say this: I hope to die,” said Weir, 77 Rolling Stone.
“I tend to think about death as the last and best reward for a well -lived life. That’s it. I still have a lot on my dish and I will not be ready to go for a while.”

While Weir has not shown signs of deceleration, he witnessed several deaths from his band’s members, including bassist Phil Lesh and the guitarist Jerry García.
“I wish … well, Phil reached his eighty. Jerry didn’t, and there was much Jerry had to offer that he couldn’t offer.
Lesh was one of the founding members and died in October 2024. He was 84 years old.

Weir was famous the “little brother” of the Grateful Dead, when he joined the band at 16.
In 1963, he met Garcia in Palo Alto, California, in a alley, according to Rolling Stone.
Weir is one of the remaining few members of the band, along with drummers Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann.

Before Lesh’s death, the four bandmates argued to meet in honor of the 60th anniversary of the rock band this year. Since the death of Lesh, Weir is now not sure of a band meeting.
“We speak a language that nobody else speaks,” Weir explained. “We communicate, we kill things from one place to another, and then we make our little statement in a more universal language.”

He continued: “For us, it is a look or a movement with a shoulder, or the way it reflects a phrase or something that sends to the other types to which it goes with this. And then they work to be where it goes, arriving there with a small surprise for you. That is a formula that has worked very well during the years, and there it is not enough of us that now left to do it.”
However, this month, Weir returned to Las Vegas for another residence from Dead & Company with 18 shows in the sphere.
“That’s what I do,” he said. “That’s what I am here.”

Meanwhile, in October 2024, Lesh’s death was confirmed on his official Instagram page.
“Phil brought immense joy to all those around him and leaves a legacy of music and love,” said their social networks at that time.

Lesh and Garcia met for the first time in 1959, and after reconnecting in 1964, Garcia invited Lesh to join the group, then called the sorcerers. Garcia asked Lesh to touch the bass, what he had never done before, according to Rolling Stone.
