Trump suggests that we can join the British Commonwealth


President Trump said Friday that he liked the idea that the United States joined the British Commonwealth after a report said King Carlos III I would make an offer.

“I love King Charles,” Trump wrote in Truth Social on Friday morning while linking an article citing a Daily Mail report that said the monarch would secretly offer the United States associated membership in the Commonwealth during Trump’s second state visit to Great Britain. “It sounds good to me!”

Trump also published the same report on the offer of “secret” membership of the King on Saturday morning.

Fox News Digital has communicated with the White House to comment.

The British Commonwealth, created in 1926, is composed of 56 countries, including Australia and Canada, most of which were originally British colonies. The monarch is the chief of the Commonwealth, whose maintenance was an important priority of Queen Elizabeth II.

Membership is voluntary.

The United States was part of the British empire before winning independence after the revolution.

India was the first country to decide to remain within the Commonwealth after winning independence in 1947.

Trump had a friendly relationship with the late queen and always spoke very well about her.

“I got to know her very well and, you know, I met her in her 90 years, ok, but it was great,” Trump He told Mark Levin of Fox News In 2023. “This is a woman … 75 years reigned, and never made a mistake.”

Trump also praised Charles and the heir of the throne, Prince William, whom he touching In December in Paris, but he had less good things to say about Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle.

“This is being discussed at the highest levels,” said a member of the Royal Commonwealth Society to The Daily Mail. “It would be a wonderful movement that would symbolize the close relationship of Britain with the United States.

“Donald Trump loves Great Britain and has great respect for the royal family, so we believe he would see the benefits of this. The associated membership could, fortunately, be followed by full membership, which makes Commonwealth even more important as a global organization.”

At the end of last month, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer presented Charles’ invitation to a second state visit to Trump, while the two politicians met at the Oval office.

“I think that only symbolizes the strength of the relationship between us. This is a very special letter. I think the last state visit was a tremendous success,” said Starmer. “His Majesty the king wants to do this even better than that.”

Trump replied: “The answer is yes. In the name of our wonderful first lady Melania and I, the answer is yes, and we hope to be there and honor the king and really honor his country. His country is a fantastic country.”

Trump described Charles as “beautiful” and a “wonderful man.”

“I have come to know him very well, first term and, now, a second term,” he added.
