Trump in the NCAA championship: Penn State fighters react to the president


The assistance of President Donald Trump to Wrestling Championship of the NCAA caused strong reactions of competitors.

“It’s a great honor for wrestling sport,” Josh Barr de Penn State told journalists on Friday. “The wrestling sport is in a place where it needs growth. It needs life and energy behind this, and President Trump brumps.

Barrio’s teammate Mitchell Mesenbrink told reporters that, regardless of politics, he believes that Trump’s assistance would help improve the audience.

“We want people to see, right? We want people to see wrestling. We want people to exchange, not only money, but the time of people and attention is money. So, I think it’s great. And I think that if I were conservative or liberal, it would be really great,” Messenbrink said.

“Democrat or Republican, whoever is, is the president of the United States. The leader of the free world in our wrestling event is really great when you think about it.”

Trump praised Penn State and all fighters outside the White House on Friday when he talked about attending the championships.

“We are going to the great fight. The reason I am in Philadelphia. They have the NCAA, the world, the struggle for the university. And I have always supported the fighters,” Trump said. “So, I want to support them. These are the great university fighters of the various schools. I think Penn State is leading, and Nebraska is in second place at this time. And many good things.”

The fighting championships are Return at the Wells Fargo Del Philadelphia center For the first time since 2011, when Penn State won everything. That started a dominant career for the Nittany Lions that continues. They have won 11 of the last 13 titles, including the last three.
