Former Bachelorette Ali Fedotowsky She shares why her family decided to give her dog, Owen, radiation treatment of cancer.
“Let’s start with it … Owen is a graduate of radiation treatment !!!!!” Fedotowsky, 40, wrote through Instagram on Friday, March 21. “I mean … this picture couldn’t be cute more. So proud of him! Now for the story why we decided to irradiate for our sweet senior puppy!”
Fedotowsky shared that it was not a “easy decision” for “many reasons”, but explained that the choice “will include six visits to the veterinarian” where he would have to be subjected to anesthesia every time.
“And as you can see, he’s very nervous about the vet,” Fedotowsky said a video about Owen’s tremors when she hugged him.
Fedotowsky explained that Owen could not do treatment where it is located in Nashville, because the city “does not have dogs for dogs yet.”
“We have heard that they will be next month, but unfortunately Owen would not have been lasting until next month if we were expecting,” he wrote Fedotowsky and explained that they went to Chattanooga and stayed in the hotel friendly for pets. “I treated him like a king when there! He slept with me in a big comfortable bed … and ate salmon and steak room.
Fedotowsky noted that the trip “was not easy” and noted that she was “several times all night several times to take him out to go to the bathroom or just leave his anxiety.” One night he slept Fedotowsky on the floor with Owen because “he really fought and broke (her) heart”.
“So why did we do it? Owen has a very large brain tumor and without treatment his neurologist estimated that he had to live for about a month. I couldn’t stand this idea. I promised to do everything in my power to help him,” she wrote. “After we confirmed the brain tumor with MRI, our neurologist referred us to the radiation facility in Chattanooga. After we did a ton of research and talked to the radiologist, we learned that by performing one CT scan and then 5 stereotactic radiation treatments.
Fedotowsky noted that dogs must be in anesthesia to keep them “perfectly calm” when they underwent MRI, CT scanning or radiation treatment – but the family thought “This short time would be worth with him.
“So yes, it was hard for him, but we wouldn’t make this decision if we didn’t think its short amount of anxiety and discomfort would be worth it in the long run,” Fedotowsky said her feet with Owen’s socks. “He is like a little puppy outside this treatment and his seizures, so I know he has a good life to live! (And yes, I wore my socks with pictures of Owen on them during his treatment!”
While Fedotowsky noted that Owen’s brain cancer “cannot be cured by radiation,” she explained that the hope was “to reduce the tumor or simply suppress its growth to give it the next time.”
“And while he was finished with his treatments, side effects can be felt weeks or even a few months later, so we will continue to watch it carefully,” she wrote.
Fedotow returned home with Owen To Nashville on Friday and sharing that her Pooch was “very sleepy” and now “peacefully sleeps in his home with people she likes to love”.
“We don’t know exactly what the future is. He is almost 12 years old and Grand Mal seizures are now part of his life (hopefully less common so far). We hope to have another good year or two with him and plan to spoil him at that time!” She added. “We will never have a single moment for granted.”
Fedotowsky concluded that the week was “a lot” for their family “logistically, financially and emotionally”, but noted that “for the sweet guy is nothing I would not do.”
“He did it! Cancer removal (soft tissue sarcoma) on his leg, MRI, CT scan and 5 stereotactic treatments!” Yes, he still has a brain tumor and will always be. He will be for the rest of his life on medicines to help handle his seizures. Sharing what the future looks like for our sweet bud and why we did what we did above. Thank you for all love. So happy that we are back home with our family, where we belong. “
Fedotowsky shared March 14 that Own was diagnosed with a brain tumor and asked her Instagram Followers “Please leave him in your heart this week”. Weeks before, Fedotowsky shared an update in the middle of a husband Kevin Manno‘with Battle with Papillary Cancer of Thyroid. (A couple who tied the knot in 2017, shares daughter Molly, 8 and Son Riley, 6.)
“He will be happy to announce that the thyroid pathology report has returned negative! its operationThey took the thyroid to test it to make sure they get all the edges. ”
