Former American representative Mia Love, R-UTAH, died on Sunday at the age of 49, according to her family.
Love, who was the daughter of Haitian immigrants and the first black Republican woman chosen for Congress, “died peacefully” surrounded by family.
“With grateful hearts full of overflowing with the deep influence of mine in our lives, we want you to know that he died peacefully today,” said Love’s family in a statement published to X. “He was at his home surrounded by family.”

“In the midst of a celebration of his life and an avalanche of happy memories, Mia silently slid the mortality bands and, as his words and vision always did, he rose to the sky,” the family continued. “We are grateful for the many good wishes, prayers and condolences. We are taking some family time and we will provide information about funeral services and a public celebration of their life in the next few days.”

Love had been in treatment for brain cancer, but his daughter said earlier this month that the former congressman’s cancer no longer responded to him.
