The funny car driver of the National Association Hot Rod (NHRA) Ron Capps was involved in a terrifying accident during the Arizona nationals Sunday.
The Capps vehicle quickly left the starting line and in the blink of an eye, the upper part of its car exploded. He got into the dividing line and towards the wall of the left guard. Capps was able to leave his vehicle under his own power.

The NHRA said it was examined by the medical team on the site before being released.
“It was an unfortunate first round, and we are grateful that @roncapps28 has been able to get out and move away,” Ron Capps Motorsports He wrote in X. “The security safari @nhra was there, and the security team and the chassis did their job. Thanks to our incredible sponsors such as @Thenapanetwork and Toyota, we will be in Pomona!”
Capps has 75 wins in a fun car and has made 151 final rounds. He had three victories and was runner -up four times during the 2023 season. In 2024, he reached the final round in four events, but could not secure a victory.
So far this season, he reached the final round in Gainesville, Florida, at the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals.
Capps finished third in the fun classification of the car last year. I was behind champion Austin Prock and John Forcewho suffered his own fear accident in June.
