The 2025 World Happiness report was recently published this month, revealing that the United States not only submitted to other North America countries, but also to several European countries.
The study, which is published every year by the Welfare Research Center of the University of Oxford, usually classifies the Nordic countries. The issue of this year’s report is the “impact of care and exchange of people’s happiness,” according to the study.
Several factors, including inequality, generosity, freedom, life expectancy and perceptions of corruption, contribute to classification, but researchers weigh a question related to happiness.
“Our global classification of happiness is based on a single question that asks people to evaluate the quality of their life on a 0-10 scale,” explains the site.

The United States has qualified under the study in recent years, despite having been classified as the 11th happiest country in 2011. The study also classified us as the 115th freer country, with the study by asking the participants: “Are you satisfied or dissatisfied with your freedom to choose what you do with your life?”
Despite its low classification of happiness and freedom, the United States has a high GDP of $ 76,276 per capita and is classified in fourth place for GDP. The United States also occupied the 12th and 16th position in social support and generosity, respectively.
“The growing number of people who eat alone is a reason to reduce well -being in the United States,” says the study, and adds that the decrease in happiness and social trust in the United States “explains a large part of the increase in political polarization and votes against the system.”

Finland, on the other hand, has been classified at the top of the World Happiness Report since 2018. The study proves its “universally available and high quality social health, education and support systems”, and concluded that the inequality of well -being is low in the country.
“Our annual classification of happiness is, once again, directed by Nordic countries, with Finland even first among them,” the key ideas of the study concluded. “Nordic countries are also among the best places for the expected and real return of lost wallets.”
