A bipartisan pair of Florida legislators It is being associated to establish the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as a separate agency at the cabinet level in an effort to “reduce bureaucracy, improve government efficiency and save lives.”
Representatives Jared Moskowitz, D-Fla., And Byron Donalds, Republican National security (DHS) and return it to your main mission to provide emergency aid.
“As the first emergency management director chose Congress, I have seen firsthand the challenges of preparing, responding and recovering from disaster events. As these emergencies continue to grow and more generalized, the US people deserve a federal response that is efficient and fast,” Moskowitz said in a shared statement with Fox News Digital. “To achieve that, Fema should be reformed.”
The bill would also require a director to be designated to direct the agency when confirming the Senate.

It would be required that the director have “a demonstrated capacity and knowledge of emergency management and national security” and not less than five years of executive leadership and experience in management in the public and private sectors, according to the text of the bill.
Moskowitz highlighted how Fema sits under the “umbrella” of the DHS with about 20 agencies, saying: “The configuration simply does not work.”
“By eliminating FEMA from the National Security Department and restoring its status as an independent agency at the Cabinet level, my bipartisan bill will help reduce bureaucracy, improve government efficiency and save lives,” Moskowitz said. “It will also help Reenfocar Fema in its original mission: as an agency in charge of responding before, during and after disaster events.”

Donalds, in a statement shared with Fox, said: “Fema has become too bureaucratic, too politicized, too inefficient and a substantial change is needed to better serve the American people.”
“When a disaster occurs, the rapid and effective action must be the standard, not the exception,” the Republican congressman wrote. “It is imperative that FEMA is eliminated from the bureaucratic labyrinth of DHS and, on the other hand, is designated to directly inform the president of the United States.”
The bill occurs two months after President Donald Trump launched a review advice as part of an initiative to begin “fundamentally reforming and reviewing the agency.
“Despite the binding of almost $ 30 billion in help for disaster in each of the last three years, FEMA has managed to leave vulnerable Americans without the resources or support they need when they need it most,” says Trump’s order. “There are serious concerns about the political bias in FEMA. In fact, at least one former FEMA responder has declared that Fema managers ordered him to avoid homes of people who support Donald J. Trump’s campaign for president.”

The use of Fema resources has also been the subject of scrutiny in recent weeks after the Government Efficiency Department (Doge), directed by billionaire Elon Musk, revealed that the agencyUnder former President Joe Biden, he assigned $ 59 million to New York City to pay “luxury hotels” for illegal immigrants.
