The Constitutional Court of South Korea annulled on Monday the political trial of the Prime Minister Han Duck-Soo, local media reportsrestoring it as an interim president.
He will assume the position of the current interim president and Minister of Finance, Choi Sang-Mok.
Han was accused by the Opposition Democratic Party in December, After, according to the reports, he refused to appoint three judges for the Constitutional Court who was investigating the accusation of President Yoon Suk Yeol after briefly imposing martial law.
Choi appointed two of the three judges after assuming the position of interim president.
The eight judges of the eight court judges dismissed in a 5-1 vote, while two judges rejected the motion completely, according to the Yonhap national media.
The verdict on Han also advances to a ruling of the Court of Appeals that is due on Wednesday to the leader of the opposition party Lee Jae-Myung, who He was convicted of violating electoral laws last November. Lee had run against Yoon in the presidential elections of 2022.
If you are convicted by the Court of Appeals, you can lose your parliamentary seat and be disqualified to run in the next presidential race.
The court has not revealed a date for the decision on Yoon’s accusation. It has 180 days from December 14 to give a verdict.
If the accusation of Yoon is confirmed, South Korea must call an election within 60 days after the elimination of the president, and if the accusation is attributed, Yoon will be restored to the position.
