The Senate Finance Committee will vote later this afternoon about whether to advance in the election of President Donald Trump to direct the services centers of Medicare and Medicaid, Dr. Mehmet Oz, to a complete vote of confirmation of the Senate.
The vote follows two hearings of the committee that investigated OZ on their plans for federal medical care programs, their views on abortion, possible conflicts of interest in the health industry and more.
If confirmed, OZ would be in charge of almost $ 1.5 billion in federal expenses of medical care. Medicare, a Federal Medical Care Program For people over 65 years and older, it currently provides coverage for about 65 million Americans, according to the Medicare Defense Center. Medicaid, which helps people with low income, covers approximately 72 million Americans, according to Medicaid.gov.

A former cardiac surgeon who saw his reputation to increase through his appearances on day television and 13 seasons of “The Dr Oz Show”, Oz then made the transition to politics, launching an unsuccessful offer for Open Senate Seat of Pennsylvania In 2022. He finally lost to John Fetterman, then the lieutenant state governor.
Oz graduated from Harvard and received medical and commercial titles from the University of Pennsylvania.
As CMS administrator, OZ would make decisions related to the way in which the government covers procedures, hospital stays and medications within federal medical care programs, as well as reimbursement rates in which health providers are paid for their services.

Earl this month, Trump’s choice to direct the NIH and the FDA, Dr. Jay Bhattacharya and Dr. Marty Makary, respectively, they were also approved in the Committee and are currently waiting for full confirmation votes in the Senate.

Almost at the same time as Bhattacharya and Makary obtained the approval of the committee, Trump withdrew his nomination of former Florida representative, David Weldon, to direct the CDC, for fear that he did not have the republican support to clarify the complete confirmation.
On Monday, the Trump administration called Susan Monarch, who is currently an interim director of the CDC, as his new nominated.
