The Ombe Xander Zayas OMBR is confident that he will receive an opportunity for the title against the WBC and the Junior Medium Weight Champion of the OMB, Sebastian Fundora below. Zayas, 22 years old (21-0, 13 kos), already has his high combat partners prepared for camp to help him train for the bottom of 6’5 1/2 ″ (22-1-1, 14 ko).
The promoter of Fundora, Sampson Lewkowicz, has not yet said if they will eliminate the fight against Zayas or if they will focus on fighting a unification below. Lewkowicz said last Saturday night that Xander is young enough to where he can wait.
“At 22, I am in the conversation to fight for my first world title. Winning would mean the world,” said Xander Zayas to Upper range boxingabout his hope of fighting the WBC and the Junior Junior Weight Champion of the OMB Sebastian Fundora below.
Interestingly, Top Rank has positioned Zayas to fight Fundora for his OMB belt instead of going in the direction of being mandatory for the FIB Bakhram Murtazaliev champion. Obviously they know that Zayas’s lack of power would put him at the mercy of Bakhram, who would separate him.
In addition, the IBF would not facilitate Zayas to be mandatory because of the way in which the OMB. It is expected to fight with someone good like Yoeniz Tellez, and probably would not do well against that guy. The OMB gave Xander green that will face Slaya Spomer in a title eliminator. That was like the OMB gave Zayas the mandatory position on a silver dish without him needing to work for it.
That is good for him, but also bad because he is not ready to fight for a world title against Fundora because his opposition has been so poor his career. When the promoters lean back to make a fighter for marketing reasons, they are not prepared for when they finally fight for a world title unless the champion is poor.
“He is a tall fighter, but if you look at his fights, he does not know how to fight outside. He is flat.
“We already have the combat partners prepared for this camp. Therefore, we already have an idea of who we bring. We are in conversation for an opportunity for the title. This is the fight (we hope) to happen next. With luck, I get my opportunity for the title in the summer and I bring that championship to Puerto Rico.”
There are few chances of Sebastian Funda accepting to defend his titles in Puerto Rico against Zayas unless he goes to the offer of the bag and the profits of Top Rank. However, it doesn’t matter. Fundora is going to be a nightmare for Xander, regardless of where the fight is organized, and the judges will not have the opportunity to score the fight.
Zayas does not possess the power or experience to defeat a fighter as a founder. Top Rank has kept Xander under protection since he became a professional and combined it with the second level opposition to ‘develop it’, but the inconvenience is that he is not ready for first level fighters.
The things that worked for Xander against combatants such as Slaya Spomer will not be effective against Fundora, and it doesn’t matter if you have many high -combat partners for training camp. They will not have the type of talent that the ‘imposing hell has’ because if they did, they would not be working as combat partners.
