Jermall Charlo will do it emerge from hibernation mode Once again to fight in Super Middleweight on May 31 at a PBC event in Las Vegas. He will fight on the billboard of former IBF champion of 168 pounds Caleb Plant.
Charlo (33-0, 22 kos) turns 35 on May 19 and has not fought in two years since he defeated the former Weight Contente Welter José Benavidez Jr. in 2023. Jermall looked quite bad then, leaving a dismissal of two years, and now he is doing it again.
Before Jermall stopped fighting, he had never defeated the avant -garde fighters during his career in 154 and 160. He was mainly known for his victories about the former opponents of GGG Sergiy Derevyanchenko, Julian Williams, Austin Trout and Cornelius Bundrage.
What is the goal?
Charlo was a good fighter, but he took a lot of punishment in some of his fights, demonstrating that he was not at the level of a Gennadiy or Canelo Alvarez. Those are the two combatants he had been pressing in his youth when he was still active and motivated.
Now, at 35 and essentially four years of inactivity, one cannot expect much from Jermall Charlo. He will return, but the only thing he can expect is that Canelo throws him a season of bones or riad offered by Mega-Millions to be an opponent for someone like Terence Crawford. With luck, do not cinhen because nobody wants to see that kind of veteran struggle.
Lance Pugmire is informing that Jermall will fight on the Plant billboard. It is not known who will face Charlo, but obviously it will be a low level opponent for tuning purposes. With luck, he is someone from the 168 -pound division instead of one type two kinds of weight below, as in the last fight of Jermall in 2023.
This last return does not seem promising for Charlo, but he hopes they offer him a money package to fight in one of the events of the Riyadh season, I suppose it is worth it. He is not winning a world title in the latter era of his career. Again, that is likely that this is not your goal for this return.
Any hope of title?
Given the recognition of Jermall’s name among older fans who remember him during the best years of his career from 2016 to 2021, he could get an opportunity for the world title in 168 if he seems decent on May 19. The super medium unified champion, Canelo Álvarez, has been focusing on taking an easy opposition lately, and a fight against Jermall would be in his alley if he looks survey on his return.
The former world champion of two divisions Jermall Charlo used to be an excellent fighter and one of the most important names of sport. However, after an exhausting fight against Juan Macias Montiel on June 19, 2021, Charlo stopped fighting for two years and was not motivated to return to the ring. He had the opportunity to obtain a mass payment day to challenge Canelo Álvarez for his unified super medium weight titles on September 30, 2023.
Jermall decided not to take the fight due to personal problems. Instead, his twin brother, Jermell Charlo, fought for the gigantic payment day. Interestingly, Jermell also stopped fighting and has not been seen within the ring since then.
