The Australian senator wields dead salmon in Parliament

An Australian senator has revealed a dead salmon in a plastic bag while speaking in Parliament, in protest against a bill that is discussed.

The bill is designed to protect salmon cultivation works, says Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s labor government, but would also limit the public’s ability to review and challenge environmental decisions.

Some politicians and environmental groups have already questioned salmon cultivation practices in the state of Tasmania, accusing them of contaminating river paths.

Tasmania is the home of Maugean Skate, an endangered fish that lives in the port of Macquarie, and conservationists are concerned about how pollution can affect them.

The senator of the Green Party, Sarah Hanson-Young, accused the Labor Party, having “exhausted her environmental credentials” while driving the fish.

The president of the Senate lines usually asked Hanson-Young to eliminate “the support” of the chamber.
