The Sudanese Army takes up Khartum airport from RSF

The Sudanese army has told the BBC that it has recovered the airport of the capital, Jardum, from the paramilitary RSF, which marked its last territorial gain in the brutal two -year civil war.

General Mohamed Abdel Rahman Al-Bilawi, commander of the operation in East Jardum, said the troops had assured him and could clear the rest of the RSF fighters at the end of the day.

The army has moved quickly since the presidential palace recovered on Friday and has taken the state institutions taken by the RSF.

The RSF had controlled most of Jartoum since the war began in April 2023. Throughout the country, hundreds of thousands have been killed, and millions have been forced to flee from their homes.

Residents have reported this week that RSF fighters were retiring south, apparently towards Jebel Awliya, the only place where they could still cross the area.

The videos published on social networks seemed to show some people in the center of Jartum celebrating the army’s progress after what many have described as a brutal occupation of RSF.
