Big George Foreman has died sadly, but will always remain a legendary figure in the history of boxing. Foreman was a great time in good faith, and it was an inspiration for millions of people.
Age is just a number, that was the ideal that Big George hugged when the former heavyweight champion made an unexpected return in 1987. Foreman was 38 years old, he had lost the heavyweight championship against Muhammad Ali in 1974, and George had not fought in 10 long years. The return initially did not take very seriously. It was widely perceived as a trick that makes money. Foreman’s goal to recover the heavyweight crown seemed like an unrealistic fantasy.
But Foreman was fighting regularly, throwing weight, returning more acute and working in better fighting conditions. Before you knew, a little more than 4 years later, Foreman was a perfect 24-0 on the way back, with 23 of those victories in the distance. This earned Foreman the opportunity to challenge the undisputed and undisputed heavyweight world champion Evander Holyfield. The fight occurred in April 1991, and Foreman gave an admirable effort, but fell short. It seemed that this was the end of the road to Foreman, but shrunk. A few fights later lost an unequal decision against Tommy Morrison, at which time Foreman was discarded as a serious contender.
In November 1994, after being out of action 17 months after the loss of Morrison, Foreman had the opportunity to challenge the new heavyweight world champion, Michael Moorer. Few observers gave the 45 -year -old foreman any opportunity against the undefeated 26 -year -old heavyweight champion. The fight was largely developed according to expectations, where Moorer was simply too fast and too athletic for the old George. Moorer was winning the fight decisively, but in Round 10, Big George got the Big One-Two that made the history of boxing, when he knocked out the champion.
The victory of history marked Foreman as the oldest man to win the heavyweight championship. The previous record was celebrated by Jersey Joe Walcott, who won the heavyweight crown at age 37. Victoria also turned Foreman into a 2 -time heavyweight champion. Surprisingly, the two reigns of the Foreman championship separated for more than 20 years.
Big George was one of the most extraordinary boxers during the long history of professional boxing, but beyond that, he was an extraordinary human being who entertained and inspired millions of people through his words and actions, where he exuded unwavering heart, determination and self -confidence.
