WU has promised to protect immigrants against the deportation efforts of the Trump administration. During his speech in the state of the city last Wednesday, he told immigrants: “They belong here.”
Wu defended this position while he was in “The Daily Show”, saying that Boston’s welcoming attitude Towards illegal immigrants makes the city safer “for all.”
She argued that it was a false narrative that immigrants commit more crimes, after a raid for immigration and customs application (ICE) resulted in arrests of 370 illegal immigrants in the Boston area last week.
“We are really focused on being that home for everyone, and it has worked. Therefore, all that buzzs around whether these types of cities that are more cozy for immigrants are more dangerous: it is a false narrative that immigrants are more likely to commit crimes or cause damage, and that is simply not true,” he said.
