Yuba County District Prosecutor, Clint Curry, said at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon that multiple application agencies launched 20 search warrants in the counties of Yuba, Sutter, Tehama and Butte as a result of a several year investigation on trafficking methamphetamines and fentanyl.

An officer of the Marysville Police Department was injured during an exchange of shots between the police and a person within the authorities of a home was investigating, said the Yuba County Sheriff, Wendell Anderson. The officer, who was taken to the Adventist Health and Rideout hospital, then died from his wounds.

“Obviously, this tragedy has shaken our small community,” Anderson said.

The gunman was shot dead, Anderson said. A second individual was inside the house, and he considers him a witness at this time, Curry said.

The Sheriff said that the gunman died on the scene, and there was another person inside the house that Curry said he considers himself a witness at this time.

“These were the main players who moved poison through our communities,” he said. “And we could not simply sit and see it happening. We had to do something about it.
