Ubisoft On Thursday he announced that he is creating a new games subsidiary with Chinese technology giant Tencent Invest 1.16 billion euros ($ 1.25 billion) in the unit.
The subsidiary will focus on the best -known Ubisoft games brands, including Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six, according to the company.
“It will focus on building gaming ecosystems designed to truly become perennial and multiplatform,” Ubisoft said in a Press release Thursday.
“Backed by greater investment and increased creative capabilities, it will further boost in the quality of solo narrative experiences, expand multiplayer offers with more frequency of content release, introduce free contact points and integrate more social characteristics,” the company added.
Tencent’s investment values the new subsidiary at 4 billion euros, Ubisoft said, which implies a 4X multiple based on its average sales from the whole year 2023 to 2025.
“It highlights the strong value of Ubisoft IPS, significantly reinforces its balance, and allows the company to continue its efforts to become a more agile organization, unleash the total creative potential of its teams and better align their resources with the expectations in constant evolution of the players,” said Ubisoft.
The measure follows months of speculation about the future of Ubisoft. In January, Ubisoft advisors designated to review their strategic optionsEarning rumors about a potential sale.
Earlier this month, Bloomberg reported that the game editor was looking to incorporate external investments into a new entity, including some of its main intellectual properties.
That followed Bloomberg’s reports last year that Tencent was discussing a possible agreement-private with the Guillemot family founding Ubisoft.
The transaction news also arrives a week after Ubisoft launched Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the last title in its best -selling franchise. The game was received with critics generally positive critics, obtaining an average score of 82 at the Metacritic Review aggregation site.
