Deontay Wilder faces Tyrrell Anthony Herndon on June 27 in Wichita, Kansas

The former WBC heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder, returns to the ring against Tyrrell Anthony Herndon (25-5, 15 kos) in a bridge level fight this summer on June 27 at Charles Koch Arena, Wichita, Kansas.

This is a fight that he must win for the 39-year-old Wilder because he has lost his last two fights and four of his last five since 2020. ‘The bronze bomber’ Wilder (43-4-1, 42 kos) has seemed shot in his last two fights, fear of throwing his right hand.

A success

Deontay will probably choose to retire if he loses against Herndon, since this is the type of opponent that he should be able to overcome quite easily if he throws blows. However, with the shy way in which Wilder has fought since his defeat against Tyson Fury in 2020, he could also lose this fight. That defeat brought the best out of the 2008 Olympic bronze medalist.

Herndon, 37, is a ten -year -old professional who was knocked out in two rounds in his fight against Richard Torrez on October 14, 2023. That is the only remarkable fighter in Herndon’s curriculum, and he left the water. Torrez made it seem easy, destroying Herndon.

He is a much more aggressive fighter than Wilder at this stage of his career. If Wilder could fight like Torrez, he could not have lost any of his fights in the last four years.

For Deontay’s fight to be staged in Kansas, he is far from Las Vegas places where he had been fighting during his best years of his career. It shows to what extent his career has decreased due to his repeated defeats and bad performances since 2020.

Ideally, if Wilder can join three or four victories on tomato cans, he could put a shot by the world title, and perhaps be lucky to collect who holds the belt for the time of the belt. I don’t see it, but it is possible. Deontay still has the power suddenly, but his courage seems to have left his body completely.
