The National Security Department (DHS) said that Khalil “directed activities aligned with Hamas, a designated terrorist organization.”

“We will revoke the visas and/or green cards of the Hamas supporters in the United States so that they can be deported,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio He wrote in an X publication earlier this month.

Marc van der Hout, one of Khalil’s lawyers, and Khalil’s wife, Noor Abdalla, published statements in a series of Instagram publications. They characterized Khalil as a “political prisoner arrested in a Ice installation in Louisiana. “
Khalil’s lawyers have argued that their support for the Palestinians is protected by freedom of expression and that administration’s deportation efforts are an effort to avoid their “current and future discourse” and to deter others to do the same.
“The policy, including Mr. Khalil, does not give the appropriate notice to anyone who lives in the country that of their speech, opinions, beliefs or defense in another way will result in the government to point them out to detention and elimination, and provide government officials discretion of wireless discretion to target speeches,” The Lawyers wrote.
