The Palestinian militant group Hamas says that it supports a new high -fire plan for Gaza that would see five hostages more freed to Israel in exchange for a 50 -day truce.
Khalil Al-Hayyam, the most important leader of Hamas out of Gaza, said the group had approved the draft agreement sent by Egyptian mediators and Qatari.
The Office of the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that he had also received the plan and “transmitted to the mediators a counterproposal in full coordination with the United States,” said the AFP news agency.
If you remember, the new Limited Fire Agreement could coincide with the Eid al-Fitr Muslim party.
The discussions occur as Israeli forces continue with air attacks through Gaza and perform a terrestrial operation in Rafah after a high fire agreed in January broke earned earlier this month.
During the first phase of that agreement, Hamas launched 33 hostages. It is believed that the group still has 59, although it is said that everyone is alive.
Hamas had previously insisted on following the original agreement: with negotiations to begin in a second phase that would see the release of all the remaining hostages, in exchange for a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces in Gaza and the end of the war. But those negotiations never began.
Israel and the United States had proposed that the first phase of Alto El Fuego, which expired a month ago, should extend, without a clear guarantee that the war would end.
Israel accused Hamas of rejecting the extension and resumed his military offensive in Gaza on March 18.
Israel has since launched air attacks They have killed more than 900 people in Gaza, said the Ministry of Health led by Hamas.
Netanyahu’s office said the Israeli counterofferta of the last high -fire plan had been agreed with the United States, but so far it has not provided details.
All this occurs since Israeli forces have continued air attacks through Gaza, and a land operation in the southern city of Rafah, that Israel’s defense forces (IDF) say it aims to expand its security zone around South Gaza.
Meanwhile, protesters in Israel have accused Netanyahu and their government of putting the lives of the remaining hostages in danger by breaking the fire.
One of those hostages, Elkana Bohbot, has been shown again in trouble in a new video posted by Hamas in which she asks for her launch.
The war was activated when Hamas attacked southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing about 1,200 people and taking Gaza to 251 as captive.
Israel responded with a massive military offensive, which killed more than 50,000 Palestinians, says Gaza’s Ministry of Health led by Hamas.
