A huge earthquake has hit the center of Myanmar.
The tremor of magnitude 7.7 was felt elsewhere, even in Thailand and southwest China.
More than 1,000 have died and more than 2,000 have been injured, although it is difficult to obtain precise information.
This is what we know so far.
The Epicenter of the earthquake was located 16 km (10 miles) northwest of the saga of the city of Myanmar, said the United States Geological Service (USGS).
This is also close to the second largest city in Myanmar, Mandalay, with a population of approximately 1.5 million people, and about 100 km (62 miles) north of the capital, Nay Pyi Taw.
The first earthquake arrived around 12:50 local time (06:20 GMT) on Friday, according to USGS. A second earthquake hit 12 minutes later, with a magnitude of 6.4.
The earthquake epicenter was 18 km (11.1 miles) south of the saga of the city of Myanmar.
In Myanmar, there are road reports in the capital, in addition to damage to buildings throughout the country.
They also felt strong tremors in other places, even in Thailand and southwest China.
Around 100 construction workers do not have an account and six dead after an unfinished building collapsed hundreds of miles from the epicenter, in the Thai Bangkok capital, according to local government officials.
Rescue officials on the site said they detected at least 15 living but very deep people under the rubble, around 5 mA 10 m.
A video also showed a pool on the roof in Bangkok spilling the sides of a building that swings.
According to the country’s army, the earthquake deaths is now 1,002.
Many of the deaths were in his second largest city in Mandalay, which is close to the earthquake epicenter
There are 2,376 people separately wounds and 30 missing.
Rescue operations are ongoing, with a rescue team in Mandalay saying they were “digging people with our naked hands.”
Obtaining information from Myanmar, previously known as Burma, is difficult.
Myanmar has been governed by A military board From a coup in 2021, make access to information problematic.
The State controls almost all local radio, television, impression and online media. The use of the Internet is also restricted.
Mobile lines in the affected areas have been irregular since the earthquake hit, but tens of thousands of people also live without electricity, which makes it difficult for the BBC to communicate with people on the ground.
Foreign journalists are also rarely allowed to enter officially due to Lack of press freedom.
The Earth’s crust is made up of separate fragments, called dishes, which are found together.
These plates often try to move, but they are avoided by friction against a adjoining one.
But sometimes the pressure accumulates until a plaque suddenly moves, which makes the surface move.
They are measured on a scale called Magnitude of Moment (MW). This has replaced the best known Richter scale, now considered outdated and less precise.
The number attributed to an earthquake represents a combination of the distance that has moved the failure line and the force that moved it.
You cannot feel a tremor of 2.5 or less, but it can be detected by instruments. Earthquakes up to five feel and cause minor damage. Myanmar’s earthquake in 7.7 is classified as greater and generally causes serious damage, as it has done in this case.
Anything above 8.0 causes catastrophic damage and can completely destroy the communities in their center.
The Commonwealth Development and Development Office (FCDO) of the United Kingdom has warned about the possibility of several strong replicas in places affected by the earthquake.
Has advised people in the area or tourists who plan to travel to Myanmar, Thailand either Laosto monitor local media and follow the advice of local authorities and tour operators.
The FCDO has also issued tips on all trips to parts of Myanmar and all trips, except is essential, to parts of Thailand and Laos.
Myanmar’s security situation “can deteriorate in the short term and the military regime can introduce travel restrictions at any time” in the midst of an increasingly volatile conflict, “he said.
The FCDDO warning for Thailand parts is “due to regular attacks in the provinces by the border with Malaysia” and its advice for Laos is related to “intermittent attacks against infrastructure and armed clashes with antigubernamental groups” in the province of Xaisomboun.
This earthquake and its replicas were relatively shallow, about 10 km deep.
That means that it is likely that the impact on the surface has been more devastating than a deeper earthquake, with much harder buildings and more likely to collapse.
On December 26, 2004, One of the largest registered earthquakes hit the coast of Indonesiatriggering a tsunami that swept entire communities around the Indian Ocean.
The magnitude earthquake 9.1 killed about 228,000 people.
The largest earthquake registered 9.5 and was registered in Chile in 1960.
