The Councilor for Seattle, Rob Saka, introduced a resolution to completely reduce ties with any commitment to discourage the police.
After the murder of the disarmed resident of Minneapolis, George Floyd, in 2020, the slogan and the movement to “defuse the police” swept the country. However, following an increase reported in crime in multiple cities throughout the country, politicians, even in strengths of the Democratic Party, have tried to Distribute.
On Tuesday, Saka spoke with other members of the Public Security Committee of the City Council of Seattle about its recently introduced resolution 32167, which recognizes the work to improve public security. These measures include the appreciation for lifeguards, the progress of the decree of consent, police responsibility, a diversified public security response and reverse commitments to “defuse”.
The councilman summarized: “This resolution reverses any prior commitment or commitment by the previous councils to define or abolish the police. We know that these statements were routinely cited by police personnel as a reason to leave. We also know that they are very divisive.”

The companion Councilor Maritza Rivera added that she has seen at least one constituent sharing her desire to see the members of the Council “adopt a position against the defundation rhetoric that we have seen in the past in this city. He is not the only one who knows that he has requested it.”
Four council members ended up voting in favor of the bill, without any opposite and one absent, and the resolution will now be sent to the largest meeting of the Municipal Council on April 1.

“This council, in collaboration with the mayor’s office, has made improving public security an absolute priority,” Saka said in the announcement. “This is finally the time to recognize the lessons of the past and a pivot decisively towards a better and focused public security model. We are committed to making everyone in our community feel safe to improve our system of responsibility.”

Mayor Bruce Harrell was also summoned, noting that, instead of discouraging his police, the city has progressed at work to expand force.
“Seattle has achieved significant progress in the reinvention of surveillance since we agreed the federal consent decree more than a decade. We have created one of the most solid police responsibility systems in the country. We hire more police officers last year than we lost for the first time in years, and the requests are rising,” said the mayor.
“To help our Police Realize what they do best, we have diversified our response options by expanding the capacities of the Fire Department and successfully launched our third public security department and the attention response equipment, “he added.
