Following Meta’s announcement of a relaxation of influencer content moderation rules LGBTQ communities and other marginalized users, many Mastodon users wanted to know what this meant for the open-source, decentralized social network, given their connection to Threads.
Last June, Meta opened the fediverse-sharing feature then to all Threads users previous beta test in the US, Canada and Japan. This feature allows Threads users to enable the option to publish their posts directly to Mastodon, allowing them to reach a wider audience.

However, not everyone in the fediverse is in universal agreement about Mastodon’s integration with Threads. It was previously unknown how Mastodon would respond to Meta’s new policy, and whether larger Mastodon instances like mastodon.social would now take action against Threads accounts.
Rochko’s post suggests the organization is aware that the Threads integration could soon become a moderation issue. “Hate speech is prohibited and we will take action against any Threads account that violates our policies,” he warned in a post on his Mastodon account.
He also urged Threads users who disagreed with Meta’s new direction to switch to Mastodon. not so easy to do such as moving an account between different Mastodon servers. This is because Threads is not yet fully integrated with fediverse in this way.
