Even before Star Wars: The Skeleton Crew was released, had fans Curious about Jod Na Nawood. In the show, bastard of many namesStarring Jude Law, the film delicately toes the line between villainous hero and devilish thug. And he was visible flip the switch on Lanupa recently after betraying the staff, many fans still hoped it was a ruse. Well, in the penultimate episode of the series, “We’re in a Hard Place,” Jod finally showed his true colors and we loved it.
After a very entertaining sequence of parents trying to get a message from Attin, it contains many of those iconic circulars. Star Wars startling explosions we finally pick up on the way home with the crew. Unfortunately for them, Brutus and his thugs arrive first. There, Jo is told that unless he finally delivers the treasure to them, he is dead.
Unable to overcome the terrifying and deadly barrier that surrounds the planet, Cod devises a plan. Children are coming new and improved Onyx slagSo Cod tells the pirates that the ship is the key to landing on the planet. They grab it and try to ride it. You’d think the kids would just give up, but these aren’t the same kids who left the planet. They have changed. They are more capable. And with a little trickery, they manage to capture Brutus, the pirate leader, and terrorize the rest of his followers. But one person is not afraid. This is Jod. And in the most surprising and brutal moment of the entire series so far, Jod takes the pirate crew back by blasting the helpless, defenseless Brutus in the head.
When Jod figures out what to do next, the kids get this message from their parents. This gives them new hope, and with a little help from SM-33, they are able to escape the bandits and fly through the barrier. They are home free, or so they think. But no: Jod got away and soon took control of the ship, using a lightsaber he got in Tak Rennod’s stash to decapitate 33. He then threatens the children with the slow, painful death of their parents if they don’t shut up and let him do his thing. This, along with the elimination of Brutus, finally turned the tide for Jod. He’s in it for himself. He is not a hero. He is an evil, smelly, murderous pirate.
Which is amazing, right? Assuming it makes it past the last episode, we love that the show’s big bad is staring us in the face from the beginning. Jod was never quite a hero, but he did heroic things to help children. However, the fact that he always had all those nicknames and a hidden Force ability made him extra cagey and huge. We were hoping he was a good guy, but it’s so satisfying for the show itself that he won’t be. At least, not yet. This puts the kids (hopefully) in real danger of defeat.
to carry out Onyx slag actually from Attin, whose arrival triggers an entirely new protocol. The planet’s high-ups don’t know that Jod is the pirate who came with the missing children. They believe him to be a Republic emissary who has come to deliver gold. It’s a little too convenient for our audience, but it works perfectly for Jod. It included a huge, impressive array (1,139 in fact) of Old Republic credits. This is the treasure that he and every other pirate has always dreamed of. And he found it. He is a legend.
By this time, the families had been informed that the children had returned and had been reunited. It’s a touching moment, but it’s quickly cut short by Jod, who pulls out a lightsaber to reveal who’s still in charge. “We’re in Big Trouble” finally brought the Skeleton Crew back to Attin, finally revealing Jod to be the true villain we’d hoped he wasn’t, and pulling back the curtain a bit on the planet’s truths. Literally full of gold. Why? for what purpose? But how will the crew save the day? One more episode to find.
The first seven episodes Skeleton Crew is now on Disney+. The season finale will air on January 14.
