Why On Call is a “No Comment” Law Enforcement Show

Dick Wolf‘with On call follows fictional law enforcement agencies working for the Long Beach Police Department — but why did the procedural try not to offer comment?

During an exclusive interview with My Weekly, Starring: Troian Bellisario, Brandon Larracuente, Eriq LaSalle and Lori Loughlin discussed how their new show gave important talks without choosing sides.

“At least in my own experience, the show left me with more questions than actual answers. I hope the audience will experience it as well,” noted Larracuente, 30, who plays Officer Alex Diaz. “At the end of the day, we’re not really trying to paint a story.

Larracuente applauded On call for “just trying to show the human side” of everyone, adding, “Hopefully audience members can relate to one of the characters (on the show) in some way, shape or form.”

Bellisario, 39, meanwhile, agreed he didn’t want to “Having a unique message.”

“We want so many different kinds of people to come to this show – who have so many different views about the police. And we want them to take away what they take away,” said the actress, who plays police officer Traci Harmon Our. (“executive producer) Elliot (wolf) put it really well He says, ‘We want to create a buffet and we want everyone to come to the table and eat together.’ That’s the thing. We’re not going to say, ‘Oh, you have the idea, so you’re not welcome here.’ You have that idea, so you’re not going to like this show.” You’re going to see people make incredible decisions (on screen). You will see that we make mistakes. Nobody is a hero. And these are human beings – they just happen to do this job.”

On Call, which premiered on Thursday, January 9, is Wolf Entertainment’s first scripted streaming series. Rough drama used recording from personal camera, on-board camera and mobile phone follow police officers in the field.

While speaking with OurLoughlin, 60, showed support for On call“intention” when he “doesn’t attempt to comment” in any way. Her brother Eric LaSalle found this to be an interesting part show when he joins as lead and director.

“We’re just trying to present real, believable characters. We all spent a shift – or at least a minimum shift – riding with the officer, answering calls and observing, which was extremely helpful. For me as a director, to be able to be in that cruiser and be a fly on the wall for me with the audience,” explained the actor, 62, who plays Sergeant Lasman. “We’re trying to bring the audience in and make them feel like they’re in that car with us and they’re with us on these calls. Everyone was in tune with what we were trying to do.”

La Salle called it “the main goal” to bring in an audience “No comment.”

“We don’t say (anything), we just present. How you choose to interpret these characters is up to you. Some characters you may like, some you may not,” he continued. “You may agree with some of the characters (and) you may not. But our job—and I think I’m proud of the work we’ve done—is to present what we see as the truth and what we see as the multidimensionality of these characters.”

On callmission to excel included customization to the times.

“Our audience is evolving. The police procedural is something that is nothing new and it is definitely a Wolf Entertainment production. It’s a classic and everyone loves it,” Bellisario noted. “The younger audience mostly streams. They watch less procedural and more character-driven shows. We’re going to use the world of law enforcement, but we’re going to show it to you in a place you don’t really see much of, which is Long Beach. It’s a whole new community and landscape.”

She concluded: “We’re not going to show you a case and then finish it. This season there is an overarching story that our characters follow. but it’s really just about the time between us and this relationship and how it builds and falls and betrayals and beliefs. It’s a really incredible amalgamation of all these new ideas that I think represents a completely original idea in the show.”
