Google is testing a new Daily Listen feature that automatically creates a podcast based on your discovery feed. The company confirmed to TechCrunch that Daily Listen is a personalized AI-powered audio experience designed to keep you informed about the topics you care about.
The feature is currently rolling out in the Google app on Android and iOS, and will be available to US users who have joined the company’s Search Labs experience.
With Daily Listen, you’ll get up to five minutes of podcast episodes that provide an overview of the stories and topics you care about. The podcast also provides links to related stories that you can click on to learn more about. topics.
Google says that Everyday Listening is built into Discovery, so the topics you watch in Search and Discovery in the Google app will help you get a more personalized audio experience.
Google also notes that Daily Listen is kind of like that NotebookLM’s Audio Reviews a feature that creates podcasts with AI virtual hosts based on information you share with the app, such as course readings or legal briefings. With Daily Listen, you get a quick summary of what you need to know based on your personal interests.
If you have access to this feature, you’ll see a new “Daily Listening” section on your home screen when you open the Google app. A play button will appear on the card showing how long the podcast is, and from there you can access the audio experience.
Once you turn on the feature, you can start listening to the podcast alongside the rolling written transcript. You can scroll down to view “related stories” that offer a more in-depth look at topics that interest you.
