Director Alex Ross Perry is mourning the death of his late friend Jeff Baena after he died at the age of 47

Director Alex Ross Perry he remembers his bond with late Jeff Brothers.

“For days I struggled with how to sum up my friendship with Jeff Baena in a few paragraphs. I could write more. I should,” Perry, 40, wrote Instagram on Wednesday, January 8. “But Jeff wouldn’t write a lot: he’d want a brief outline with the basic idea, and then riff and flesh it out a little later.

He added: “But it’s not later, and you can’t believe it. There will be no ‘I’ll stay at Jeff and Aubrey’s house next time’, which I’ve done countless times. If you’ve seen me in LA in the last 10 years, it’s probably because Jeff gave me a place to stay. He fed me. He made amazing smoothies. He ordered delivery from places he knew I liked but didn’t have time to go there.’

My Weekly he confirmed this on January 4 Baena died by suicide one day before at the age of 47. He is survived by his wife Aubrey Plazahis parents and his siblings.

Perry wrote that Baena “had more faith in me than most people” when it came to his own directing career.

“It’s hard to think of the total support and enthusiasm you get from a friend over the last ten years,” Perry added. “FROM putting me in Joshy to make sure I got an episode of his experimental, pandemic show Cinema Toast (that’s why I’m in DGA), he always wanted me to work and for us to work together. I loved all the ideas he told me about upcoming movies and stories he wanted to create and share. They were weird. They were unusual. And they were quintessential Jeff.”

Perry credited Baen for being the one who “brought (him) together with a lot of amazing talented people” in the industry.

“I hope that my connection with them will last and that we will always talk about it,” Perry concluded. “We are all better for knowing Jeff.
