Actor Mel Gibson joined a host of Hollywood celebrities who criticized the Golden State’s leadership during deadly wildfires this week.
Since the fires broke out on Tuesday, California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles County officials have faced celebrity backlash for their lack of preparation and response to the crisis as flames continue to wreak havoc in the area.
The wildfires have left at least 10 dead and more than 10,000 homes and businesses destroyed.
“You always suspect that this could happen. You think that the resources and capabilities of men and women will be on standby, that they will be able to deal with any situation that arises, but apparently some people were asleep on the job, mainly our leaders there,” Gibson said Friday in “Ingraham’s angle“.
“But, you know, that’s something they have to live with, but it’s something the community has to live with, and it’s really sad.”
Gibson was one of many residents whose home was burned by the catastrophic wildfires.
“It’s tragic. It makes you very sad,” he told Fox News host Laura Ingraham.
“I count my blessings no matter what,” Gibson continued. “These are things, and they may or may not be replaceable, but they’re just things, and we’re still here.”

Gibson told Newsom to “spend less on hair gel,” noting that he’s “not a big fan” of either executive’s leadership.
“California has a lot of problems that baffle the mind as to why they do things, and then in events like this, you look at, well, is it on purpose? Which, it’s crazy to think about. But you start to reflect if whether or not there is a purpose in mind.”
