Shakur Stevenson believes Turki Al-Shiekh will make the mega fight between him and Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis in 2025 once he reunites with the Baltimore native. Tank will have a high price for the fight. He’s already saying he wants $150 million to fight Ryan Garcia. Maybe he wants a similar amount to fight Stevenson, who doesn’t get involved.
Stevenson believes Al-Shiekh will be the one who makes it worth Tank (30-0, 28 KOs) to want to fight him. That decision will hamper Shakur’s (22-0, 10 KOs) chance of winning his next fight against Floyd Schofield on Feb. 22 in Riyadh next month.
Another poor performance by Stevenson could ruin his chances of fighting Davis because the last thing he wants to fight is a running back who isn’t willing to stand up and face him.
Shakur simply tries to win on points using his hit-and-run style, assuming the judges will give him the decision. He almost lost to Edwin De Los Santos, and we saw him get chased by Robeisy Ramírez at the Olympics and defeated.
“He is a good person. I’m glad I had the opportunity to meet him. “I appreciate the opportunity and now I can show who I am,” Shakur Stevenson told Professional boxing fans on Turki Al-Shiekh by placing him on his February 22 card in Riyadh against Floyd Schofield.
“Tell him, ‘Don’t run,’” Stevenson said of his message that he wants Schofield reported for his fight next month. “You can try to look for a knockout from the beginning. Once he realizes that he can’t get it, he will become defensive.
“I think it’s going to be a tremendous fight. I think he (Turki) is saving boxing. So once Tank is with him, I think fights will happen,” Shakur said of his belief that Turki Al-Shiekh will make the fight between him and Gervonta Davis once he reunites with the Baltimore native.
“He sounds like a businessman. I think he wants to make as much money as possible in the sport of boxing. That’s good for him,” Shakur said, reacting to being told Tank wants $150 million for his rematch with Ryan Garcia to make it happen.
In recent training, WBC lightweight champion Shakur has been using only his left hand and striking cautiously with his surgically repaired right hand.
That fragile-looking right looks like it could crumble almost immediately once Floyd pressures him in the first round. Stevenson will have no choice but to try to keep away the ambitious Schofield, promoted by Golden Boy.
If you’re fighting the 22-year-old Schofield (18-0, 12 KOs) with only one arm, you’ll be forced to run all night to avoid being overwhelmed by the youngster’s powerful punches.
