Zayn Malik he almost blew his chance at fame. On the morning of his audition at The X Factor UK in 2010, he felt so nervous that he decided not to go—that is, until his mother, Triciabasically got him out of bed and helped change his mind. The rest, as they say, was history.
In the middle of the creator and judge competition Simon Cowell grouped Malik s Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson to form the boy band One Direction. The fivesome went on to take the world by storm, releasing four albums together in as many years and performing in historic stadiums across North America, Europe and beyond.
Malik in 2015 he left the group suddenly in the middle of one of them On the road again tour. He explained to fans that there was no rift between the members, but he simply wanted time away from the spotlight.
“We went from theaters to arenas to stadiums – there was never a bridge in between. Just boom, boom, boom,” he said British Vogue in 2018. “I think that kind of progression of any mind — but especially when you’re 17, 18 — it affects you a little bit. People take it in different ways – especially when there are five different personalities. Relationships have broken down.”
Malik has since become a solo artist and has released three full-length albums.
