A measure of wholesale prices rose less than expected in December, indicating that inflationary pressures on pipelines eased to close the year.
The producer price index rose just 0.2% monthly, less than November’s 0.4% increase and below the Dow Jones consensus estimate of 0.4%, according to a report from the Bureau of Tuesday’s Labor Statistics.
Excluding food and energy, the so-called core PPI remained stable compared to the forecast of a 0.3% increase. Excluding food, energy and business services, the measure rose just 0.1%.
