Hundreds of people are feared dead in Mayotte after Cyclone Chido hit the French Indian Ocean territory on Saturday.
Entire settlements were leveled as the cyclone brought winds of more than 225 km/h (140 mph), and people living in makeshift shelters were particularly hard hit.
Footage shows police officers holding a door as the cyclone made landfall, leaving a hole in the roof of a building used as shelter.
One resident said the wind had blown everything away while he was waiting in line to buy food at a supermarket.
It is feared the final death toll could rise into the thousands once the damage is fully assessed and rescue workers are still working to reach some communities.
