Blue Ivy Carter he has his own Beyhive.
Members include Jenna Bush Hager and Taraji P. Hensonwho defended the strapless gold dress the 13-year-old girl was wearing Mufasa: The Lion King premiere in Los Angeles after internet trolls questioned whether the look was “age appropriate”.
Christian Syrian — which metal stunner designed Beyonce and Jay-Zeldest daughter — appeared alongside Bush Hager and Henson on the Monday, January 14 episode of the series Today with Jenna and friends who praised Project track an alum for “gorgeous” dresses.
“It’s so beautiful,” Henson, 54, gushed. “I thought she was age appropriate. She looked like a princess!”
Bush Hager, 43, “absolutely” agreed with his temporary co-host, adding: “For anyone who says otherwise, we say bye bye.”
“People need to shut up!” Henson joked. “It was very elegant.
With just 48 hours to make the dress, Siriano and his team wanted to focus on making the teenager look like Hollywood royalty.
“What girl doesn’t want to have a princess moment?” Siriano, 39, asked hypothetically. “And when your parents are Beyoncé and Jay-Z, what are you supposed to wear?” Napkin? Like, you’re not going to wear a tutu. You want to look like a star, come on.”
Henson was quick to point out that Blue Ivy is still just a “kid” and urged everyone to “keep our opinions to ourselves.”
“Kindness really matters and it’s not that easy,” she continued. “You can sit on your phone and twitter your thumbs all you want, but let’s see how you get on the red carpet and look.”
Bush Hager also gave Siriano props for how the gold finish of the dress resembled the color scheme of the film she starred in, so it was “what she should be wearing”. (Beyoncé, 43, voiced Queen Nala in the live-action Disney prequel, while Blue Ivy voiced her daughter Kiara.)
Blue Ivy initially faced some criticism from trolls who deemed the dress “inappropriate,” to which Henson (a regular on red carpet best-dressed lists) applauded: “It was very appropriate.”
Several other celebrities — including Sherri Shepherd and Christina Milian — also joined the conversation to show their support for Blue Ivy’s style.
For her part, Beyoncé hasn’t pleased the naysayers with the responses and has yet to acknowledge the mixed reviews. Instead, she proudly joined her daughter premiere with her husband Jay-Z55, — in a coordinating Disney x Balmain limited edition black and gold Balmain dress: The Lion King collection.
Designed by Creative Director Olivier Rousteingthe strapless column was adorned with gold polka dots made from metal leaf that, while on theme, didn’t steal Blue Ivy’s attention.
After the red carpet was rolled out, the “Texas Hold ‘Em” singer gave a hearty compliment to her mini-me Instagram cry on December 9. “My beautiful baby girl,” she captioned the post with photos of her daughter posing for photographers. “This is your night. You worked hard and did such a beautiful job as Kiara’s voice. Your family couldn’t be prouder. Keep shining.”
After all, Blue Ivy is a fashion star in the making — and according to Beyoncé’s stylist Shiona TuriniBlue Ivy will “make the final choice” when it comes to her stage appearance.
Example? Beyoncé’s much-talked-about all-white wardrobe recently donned for her halftime performance during the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens Christmas Day game. (The 13-minute performance, titled “Beyoncé Bowl,” was streamed live on Netflix and is now streaming on the platform.)
During the set, the Grammy winner sang songs from her Grammy-nominated country album Cowboy Carter. Accompanied by a massive on-court ensemble – which included Blue Ivy – they all suitably wore white Western-inspired costumes, with Beyoncé wearing a bespoke Roberto Cavalli feather coat and over 350 carats of Lorraine Schwartz diamond jewellery.
Blue Ivy, meanwhile, went mini ‘Cowboy Carter’ in a crystal-encrusted corset and wide-leg trousers by Ukrainian designer Frolov, which were embellished with fringe. Both topped it off with a Stetson hat.
“When Bey said she wanted everyone in white, I knew we had to look at different textures, different patterns, different accents — whether it was fringe, suede, crystals, American flags,” Turini said in a December interview with Harper’s Bazaar. “You really have to lean on elements that make each section look different so it doesn’t repeat itself.”
Turini continued, “But for Blue, you can play around with her options because she’s going to be different than anyone else, no matter what.” A truly exceptional style.
