Monday, SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son joined the presidency-elect Donald Trump announcing that his company would invest $100 billion in the United States over the next four years.
At a press conference at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence, Trump also announced that SoftBank’s investment will create at least 100,000 American jobs. Trump called it a “historic investment” that will “help build, create and grow artificial intelligence, emerging technologies and other industries of tomorrow right here in the United States.”
Son and Trump had a close working relationship during Trump’s first term in 2016, when Son announced that SoftBank would invest $50 billion in US startups and create 50,000 jobs. On Monday’s conference call, Son said he chose to double his investment in 2016 because “President Trump is a double down president, I’m going to have to double down.”
