A California man whose house was the only one on his block saved by Eaton fire He captured shocking video showing the devastation in his neighborhood and said, “God knew what he had to do to protect me.”

Enrique Balcázar recorded the images on January 9 when he returned to see what was left of his community in Altadena.

“This is across the street, the house on the corner and the two houses across the street and the entire street to my right is decimated,” he said. “From what I could see, all the houses on my block are burned down, except my house.”

“Why do I deserve this? I don’t know. I don’t think I deserve it. But God bless everyone else with a lot of insurance to rebuild. God knew what he had to do to protect me,” Balcázar added, getting emotional.

Video taken by Balcázar shows him walking through his property to inspect for any damage. As the camera moves, his neighborhood appears in ruins, while crows can be heard chirping eerily in the background.

“Everyone behind me, how is this? How can this be true? Everyone behind me is burned,” Balcazar continues, noting how the wood he was using to build an extension to his house was consumed by the forest fire.

“Even the wood with which we were building the extension of the house, but my house is intact. But even my wood burned, how can that happen if it is not God? The neighbors are gone,” he said.

At one point in the video, Balcázar reveals that a portion of his garage roof was still burning.

“The garage is still standing. I don’t understand how this happens. This is God,” he said.

“Alright, let’s go ahead and put some water on it right now, make sure we turn it off so it doesn’t turn on again,” Blacazar added before the video ended.
