YouTube is testing a new way to engage fans by allowing creators to post voiceovers and respond to comments on their videos. announced on monday.
The ability to post audio recordings is currently limited to certain creators in the United States. YouTube says they will only be able to host these voiceovers on their channels through the iOS YouTube app.
Creators who enable this feature can tap the new sound wave icon when replying to a comment, type their reply, and post it as a comment.
Although only some creators can write voice comments, anyone will be able to listen to these comments. If users don’t want to play the audio recording, they’ll also see a transcript button below the audio recording to read the commentary.
The company said it hopes the experience will result in “more meaningful connections” between creators and fans in the future.
This year, YouTube focused on building community and fan-related features. In March, the platform began allowing creators Share exclusive Shorts with your subscribers. The company started operating in September a Discord-like space within the creator’s channel allowing the creator’s fans (especially subscribers) to have discussions.
