10 Aliens Worth Watching, Rated

There are two sci-fi classics from the 1970s that have received more rip-offs and spoofs than any other film from the decade. The first is obviously Star Wars and we already covered which of those knockoffs you should see in the previous video, so check it out if you need more lasers and space battles in your life.

Because this time we’re dealing with that other sci-fi game changer from the 70s, Foreign. A simple monster movie set in space became a generational masterpiece that reshaped the future of science fiction and horror in cinema. And since it was such a groundbreaking success, you know the films will continue to be inspired and even ripped off Foreign gone for decades ahead.

So we decided to explore the vastness of space and even the depths of the oceans for the absolute cream of the xenomorph crop. I’m Drew Dietsch for Giant Freakin Robot and this is a Top 10 review Foreign knockoffs are truly worth your time.

10. Contamination (1980)

You know we had to include the ripoff maestros, the Italians, and we had plenty to choose from. Heck, the Italians went so far as to make a movie with the actual name Alien 2! But we will include only one Italian Foreign knockoff and it has to be from our favorite Italian Star Wars fraud director, Starcrashhis own Luigi Cozzi. This is it Contamination.

Release the following year after that Foreign, Contamination brings evil alien eggs to Earth because it’s cheaper than building spaceship kits. Lots of fun, ugly effects and some cute ones like olives used for alien eggs or a giant cyclops monster. Contamination a great example of the cheesy delights of Italian junkyards.

9. Lily Cat (1987)

Anime there was a lot of inspiration in the 1980s Foreign. So much so that it concluded with a short fan anime film, Alien: Monday. But Lily the CAT is the only one that pretty much goes full territory.

It also takes cues from John Carpenter Thing, Lily the CAT is a simple and straightforward story about a spaceship crew terrorized by an evolving alien bacteria. Like most anime from the 80s, the violence and lewdness is turned up to the point max. In less than 70 minutes, Lily the CAT is a quick and concentrated intervention Foreign knock-off goodness.

8. Lifeforce (1985)

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre director Tobe Hooper blends together Foreign and another movie we discussed on this channel, Quatermases and the Pitinto a bombastic and bombastic blockbuster, Vitality.

Based on the novel Space vampires, Vitality puts a unique spin on the “discovering an abandoned spaceship” riff by placing an alien vehicle in a comet. Once the alien craziness hits Earth, you’re treated to some pretty amazing effects that are worth the film’s entire existence.

7. Leviathan (1989)

In the late 1980s, several films were quickly produced in anticipation of another film being ripped off, Miss. Since then of course Miss they haven’t actually released yet, they had to rip as well Foreign for their plot. And although I can certainly sing Deep Star Sixthe best of them is George P. Cosmatos Leviathan.

With a surprisingly perfect cast of remarkable actors, Leviathan conveys claustrophobic space horrors Foreign into the deep sea. If you like yours Foreign knockoffs wet and wild, make sure you set aside some time for them Leviathan.

6. Forbidden World (1982)

Like the Italians, Roger Corman got screwed Foreign more times than we can count. But if there’s one of his exploitative experiments that stands out in this arena, this has to be it Forbidden World.

As for the story, you won’t find anything new here Forbidden World plays hits with great success. And it doesn’t even break 80 minutes, so this is another short and sweet effects fest that any self-respecting B-movie fan needs to check off.

5. Under Water (2020)

Did you think it was going to be nothing but 80s movies? No! Foreign continues to be a source of inspiration for filmmakers and Under water is an exciting modern example. It hit theaters in 2020 and audiences quickly forgot about it. This is their loss because when it comes to the big studio Foreign knockoffs, Under water is the main winner.

Excellent production design, energetic script and some monstrous revelations Under water species science fiction horror, we rarely get out of Hollywood anymore. If this has crossed your radar, do yourself a favor and check it out Under water. It’s only 95 minutes! Bless these Foreign movies and their reasonable length.

4. Event Horizon (1997)

Hey, I think we talked about this movie before! Seriously, you can watch our entire video about Event horizonbut it’s worth noting that director Paul WS Anderson wasn’t shy about his influences in his creation Event horizonand Foreign is all over this movie.

Although it leans more in the end Hellraiser than Foreignentire production design Event horizon is directly influenced by the sci-fi technology of Ridley Scott’s Truck Driver. You want something supernatural in an Foreign tribute? Event horizon is your ticket.

3. Deep Rising (1998)

A crew of villains must deal with a seemingly abandoned ship and fall prey to a bizarre monster? No, you’re not back on Bosunyou have booked passage on Argonautica and it’s an absolute blast Deep Rising.

Another Bandera cast and sensational effects from Mummy director Stephen Sommers allows Deep Rising to be pure popcorn delight that always entertains. If you’re not smiling during this movie, you might want to check your pulse.

2. Pitch Black (2000)

Before that he did nothing but Fast and furious movies, Vin Diesel starring the criminal Riddick Pitch Blackone of the best sci-fi horror movies of the 2000s.

You have the usual Foreign story archetypes: somewhat unbalanced spaceship crew, strange planet, unknown alien monsters. It all works well, but it’s the inclusion of the villainous Riddick in the mix that really gives it a distinct flavor. And the alien monsters are just awesome. I’ll watch this over any other Vin Diesel movie anytime. …except maybe Iron Giant.

1. Outland (1981)

Best Foreign a knockoff is actually a movie you may never have seen or related to Foreign. Outlands is really a western in space with Sean Connery play a lawyer in a mining colony where the illegal drug market flourishes. There is no alien monster Outlands but the film’s setting, tone, and themes have always made me claim it Outlands can also take place in Foreign universe.

It’s also a legitimately great movie that most people have almost forgotten about. If you want to see a story that feels like it belongs straight into corporate terror Foreign, Outlands is a home run and that makes him number one Foreign knockoff.
