OpenAI is funding Axios’ expansion into four new markets

OpenAI is entering the local news game.

Axios, a newsletter-based media organization announced collaboration with OpenAI on Wednesday. As part of this three-year deal, the AI ​​giant will fund the expansion of Axios’ local newsletters in four new cities: Pittsburgh; Kansas City, Missouri; Boulder, Colorado; and Huntsville, Alabama.

Although OpenAI has entered into content sharing and licensing agreements a number of publications — the nature and details of these deals have not been disclosed — this is the first time OpenAI has funded the actual newsroom of a media company it’s partnered with, according to Axios. Other media partners of OpenAI include: Vox Media, The Atlantic and Financial Times, among others.
