Rayhan Demytrie sees ‘anger and frustration’ following appointment of new president

Large crowds of protesters have gathered outside the Georgian parliament to oppose the appointment of a new president.

The BBC’s Rayhan Demytrie watched protesters kick a ball after Mikheil Kavelashvili, a former Manchester City football player turned ultra-conservative politician, was elected Georgia’s next president.

The protests were sparked by the ruling Georgian Dream party’s decision to suspend the country’s EU accession talks until 2028. Hundreds of people have been detained across the country, and journalists are among those injured by security forces.
