Celine Dion pays tribute to her late husband Rene Angelil nine years after his death.
“René, we can’t believe you’ve been gone for nine years,” wrote Dion, 56. Instagram on Tuesday, January 14 “Not a day goes by that RC, Eddy, Nelson and I don’t feel your presence.”
Along with her message, Dion shared a rare photo of herself and their three children: René-Charles, 23, and twins Eddy and Nelson, 14. The family were all smiles as they sat on an outdoor sofa and posed in all-white outfits.
“You were my greatest champion, my partner and the one who always saw the best in me,” Dion concluded. “I appreciate you and miss you forever mon amour… we love you. – Celine xx…”
Dion and Angélil met in 1980 when she was 12 and he was married Anne Renee, with whom he shared a son, Jean-Pierre, and a daughter, Anne-Marie. The couple divorced in 1985. (He also shared a son, Patrick, with his first wife Denise Duquette.)
Angélil managed Dion’s career and their relationship became romantic in 1988. tied the knot the following year. Angélil continued to manage Dion’s career until his retirement in 2014 after being diagnosed with throat cancer.
Angelil he died at the age of 73 in 2016. “He will be remembered as a gentle man, generous and kind, an unprecedented visionary, a modern Pygmalion, a Renaissance man,” Dion said in a statement shared via social media at the time. “All who have had the privilege of knowing and working closely with him, whether personally or professionally, salute a leader and a man of great intelligence and wisdom.”
Dion, who publicly revealed her diagnosis with stiff man syndrome in 2022, she continued to honor her late husband over the years, sharing an emotional post on Instagram to mark the fifth anniversary of his death.
“Not a day goes by that we don’t think of you,” she wrote in 2021. “We’re reaching out to you now more than ever to guide us, protect us, and continue to watch over us. And we pray that you will shine your love upon the whole world, to all those who are facing incredibly difficult times right now. You are forever in our hearts and in our lives.”
In December 2024, Dion remembered Angélil on the occasion of their 30th wedding anniversary. “You still fill our hearts, every day. You are everything to us. We miss you so much,” Dion captioned the Instagram post. “Happy 30th anniversary, mon amour!”
