This morning Marvel us our the first, long-awaited appearance hour Daredevil: RebornLike a revival/sequel to a beloved Netflix series new chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s full of fury and brutality, but it’s also full of interesting hints about who will be returning from the original show, who’s being added to the MCU this time, and what comic arcs inspired Matt Murdock’s return to vigilante action. Let’s see who’s who, shall we?

At the beginning of the trailer, which revolves around the intense (but not unpleasant) meeting between Wilson Fisk and Matt Murdock, we admit that it’s been a while since the events of Netflix. Daredevilseries and long awaited confirmation that now at least, everything looks good between the returning lead trio of the show: Matt, his partner-in-crime Foggy Nelson, and of course, Karen Page. In early versions of the show’s return, neither Deborah Ann Woll nor Elden Henson were set to make an appearance. We’re glad they’re finally back, but neither are they in this trailer is so… and it might tease some bad things to come, especially when we’re dealing with Matt Murdock, who’s retired from the vigilante world when the series begins.

Mayor Fish

A lot has changed for Matt, but a lot has changed for Fisk as well, as we’ve seen him take on a big new role. Mayor of New York. It’s been a long time, too: The MCU started building this arc for Fisk after he returned to the MCU. Hawk eye during post-credits Echoand now we shall see it flourish Born Again. A plot twist to put Fisk at the top of the political chain comes from recent Marvel Comics history – Fisk became mayor during Charles Soule and Stefano Landini’s run. Daredevil After the events of late 2017 Secret Empire After Hydra sealed Manhattan in a Darkforce energy bubble during their plan to take over America, he found himself playing a major role in protecting the citizens of New York.

In the comics, Fisk ran as an independent candidate (and even determined the vote with popular support running on an anti-vigilante platform) and eventually even found Matt himself running as Deputy Mayor, a position he used to challenge Fisk and eventually catch him in a crime and his newfound power. confronts him as Daredevil, hoping to deprive Fisk actually stayed on as mayor of New York for a while – only to be demoted during the culmination of the 2022 series of events Satan’s reignhe rediscovered his lost knowledge of Daredevil’s alter ego after he attempted to outlaw vigilantism in New York City and teamed up with the Purple Man to force the city to re-elect him mayor. After he was stopped by both Matt and Elektra (both acting as Daredevil at the time), Fisk was briefly imprisoned, allowing Luke Cage to win the mayoral election by default.

A Familiar Enemy…

Outside of Fisk himself, we get a brief and interesting shot of at least one returning villain from the Netflix series: Wilson Bethel during Bullseye’s mid-trailer. Here we see him being led away from prison by armed guards, the last time we saw him on the Netflix show, Ben Poindexter was arrested after being defrauded from his time as Fisk’s personal assassin, leading to him trying to kill Fisk and his wife Vanessa during their wedding. . Unable to work alongside Daredevil and Fisk, Poindexter was paralyzed during the attack, leading him to undergo a mysterious experimental spinal operation that gave him enhanced shooting abilities from the comics. Considering he’s up and walking around here, the risky operation paid off.

And the new one?

But we also get new villains debuting. The handiwork of one in particular is visible throughout the trailer, and we briefly see it in action: it’s the mysterious Muse with a white, spotted mask. Created in 2016 by the aforementioned Soule and artist Ron Garney, the never-identified Muse was a mutated serial killer who graphically killed his targets before displaying them in gruesome performance art. In the comics, he evades capture several times during Fisk’s tenure as mayor until he breaks out of prison, eventually being defeated by Daredevil and Blindspot (Muse was previously blinded), causing him to commit suicide.

There is something unclear about what will happen here Born Again Muse powers. In the comics, she has superhuman strength and speed, as well as a strange sensory absorption effect: Muse can effectively dampen sensory information around her body, rendering her imperceptible even to Daredevil’s enhanced senses.

The trailer also features a few more shots of returning faces from the Netflix show in the form of Ayelet Zurer, who plays Vanessa, Fisk’s current wife. Born Again‘s creative reboot) and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher literally buries the hatchet with Matt. The second season of Frank’s own spinoff series concluded with him fully embracing the mantle of the Punisher and refusing to do wet jobs to take the CIA’s violent campaign against the underworld in new directions. Where he and Matt will reunite remains to be seen, but in a world where Daredevil has temporarily retired, what happened to the Punisher?

A New Hero Rises

Another interesting new character we meet in the trailer is a man wearing a familiar white mask: this is Hector Ayala, also known as the superhero White Tiger. Played by Kamar de los Reyes in his final role before his death in 2023, Ayala is the first of several characters to carry the mantle of White Tiger in Marvel comics, a legacy that also includes his younger sister Ava. First appearing in 1975, White Tiger gains superhuman strength through an amulet he wears around his neck, summoning the powers of the great Tiger God, giving him superhuman strength and agility, as well as accelerated healing and enhanced senses.

New Costume(s)

One of the last and most interesting glimpses we see in the trailer is Matt looking at a whole bunch of Daredevil masks. Although we see him wearing an updated version of his red suit throughout the trailer, the various titles here offer a number of echoes to Daredevil’s comic history. The most obvious is the yellow mask on the suit he wears in his appearance She-HulkIt’s inspired by Daredevil’s first costume in the comics, but it also features two red hoods from previous versions of his current costume seen in the Netflix series.

The black hood may be a reference to one of the two costumes Daredevil wears in the comics: the armored outfit he first wears after his fight with the Wild Pack, or the all-black “Shadows” costume Matt wears in the comics. He took over his ninja clan and found himself corrupted by his mysterious patron demon, the Monster. The most interesting addition here is the silver-white mask on the left, which has only one similar parallel in the comics: during the 2023 re-release. Daredevil The creative team began working with Saladin Ahmed and Aaron Kuder as Matt the priest, who eventually teamed up with Doctor Strange to face his inner demons. The result was a “cleaned up” all-white version of his regular suit.
