The first season Star Wars: The Skeleton Crew it’s over now and we’re a little on the fence about it. On the one hand, the finale gave us everything we wanted and hoped to see. Basically, the kids used everything they learned in their adventures He beat Jod and his thugs at their own game. We bought this and loved it.
The episode also left us with a lot of unanswered questions, which would have been great if we were sure there would be more. But we don’t know that yet. As good as the show’s season finale was, we’re a little concerned that it ended so incredibly abruptly. as famous as Acolyte or The Rise of Skywalker. Hopefully not, but let’s talk about it below.
the final of Skeleton Crew (titled “Real Good Kids”) picked up where the previous episode left off: Jod burst into flames with a lightsaber, standing in front of the kids and their families. Although we learn right away, Jod won’t have all of “Anakin’s youth” on them. It was just a bit of a peacock. They still think he’s an emissary of the Republic, and he’s okay with them thinking so, so he sends the droids home with all the kids to look at them and tell him they’ve shot a mouse.
Wim, KB, and Neel head home while Cod takes Fern and his mother to see the Warden. We’ve been hearing about this Overseer of AtvAtti since the show’s first episode, and Jod now has to meet him because he’s the only one who allowed his second ship to get through the barrier and onto the planet.
A controller, however, is not a person. It’s a droid – Fern’s mother, Fara, probably already knew. This is a very intelligent droid. It knows all about the children’s separation and Fern’s academic talents. He also knows that Jod is lying about something, because according to the database, all Jedi are traitors (Palpatine really covered all the bases, didn’t he?). Realizing that he has been caught, Jod destroys the Supervisor and overthrows the power on the entire planet. It also affects the droids, allowing Wim, Neel and KB to meet up and clean up their mess.
Wim, Neel and KB spring into action as the pirates land on the planet and immediately start causing chaos. After a very cool speeder bike action sequence, they come up with a plan: get off the planet Onyx slag, Get Kh’ymm a messageand have him send the New Republic to destroy the pirates. The only problem is that the ship is stuck and they have to get the power back to get it out. Which means it’s time for the battle we’ve all been waiting for: Wim and Jod.
Wim goes to the tower to confront Jod and lies to him, telling him that they have already summoned the New Republic. Jod doesn’t believe him, but he also doesn’t notice that Wim’s father, Wendle, sneaks in and turns on the power while he’s distracted. As this happens, Wim and Fern try to stop Cod while KB launches the ship. The pirates descend on him, but with a little help from Neel, he manages to get past the barrier. KB gets the message and Kh’ymm says the good guys are on their way. But they still have a hurdle to overcome.
It’s choice time. Leave the barrier up, potentially serving under Jod and the pirates, but also happily hide from the rest of the war-torn galaxy, or tear down the barrier, escape Jod and the pirates, and reintegrate into the galaxy. Jod clearly wants the previous scenario where he was rich and powerful, so he fights Fern, Wim and their parents simultaneously in a tense, emotionally charged sequence.
During the scene, we learn that Jod was a poor, homeless young man who was discovered by an equally unlucky Jedi. He started training her, so she knows how to do a few little things with the Force, but before she got too far, Order 66 was executed and a Jedi was killed before her eyes. So he came from nothing, had a chance to be something, and had it brutally taken away. It explains a lot.
Jod tries his best, and even though the parents are not entirely on board with the idea to begin with, they eventually overcome the obstacle. Jod surrenders, the New Republic (including the first live-action B-Wing) enters, and the day is saved. Wim and Fern rush to make sure KB (returned to the planet after receiving the message) is okay, and Wim even calls Cod almost as an olive branch. But Jod ignores him, walks away, and the last we see of the pirate is him looking at his crashing ship with the tiniest smile on his face. Is he proud of the children? Already making a new plan? We don’t know.
Sure enough, Neel, Wim and Fern get to KB and he’s fine. “Did we win?” she asks in an absolutely perfect moment. Yes. Yes, the guys won. They saved Atti, but also changed him forever. Fern jokes that Wim probably doesn’t have to take stock any longer as he looks up at the sky, watches the X-Wings fly by and the Frigate arrive, and contemplates all the possibilities of the galaxy. No, we think Wim is meant for things beyond Attin. He is on his way to becoming the hero he always wanted to be.
A few weeks after that…no, just kidding. The show ends with Wim’s notion of heroism and hope, which is endearing but a little off-putting. What happened to Jo? Where did he go? How do the people of Attin feel about their way of life changing overnight and without their consent for generations? And how will they deal with this decision because of these four children? None of this is essential to the plot, but you know you’d like to see a little more of it. A little more closure. And maybe we will Skeleton Crew gets a second season or the characters appear in another series. But at the end of a fantastic episode, it leaves the tiniest of disappointments.
And with that, the credits rolled Star Wars: The Skeleton Crew. It was a little repetitive at times, but now that it’s over, more than anything, I’ll remember how it was I really fell in love with all four main characters throughout the show. This hasn’t happened with new characters in a long time. Even Acolyteyou loved those characters, but most of them were destroyed in the end. with Skeleton Crewit is not so. These kids can grow up to be the saviors of the galaxy. We don’t know. But we know they’re fantastic, and we hope to see more of them and their arch-rival Jod in the years to come.
