Two dead in knife attack at Slovakia school

Two people were killed and one injured after a student attacked a school in eastern Slovakia with a knife.

Local police initially said the suspect, an 18-year-old gym student, was fleeing and urged people not to approach him.

However, he was arrested a short time later. “We assure the public that all necessary measures are being taken to make them feel safe,” police said.

They added that the teenager’s victims were two fellow students and a teacher.

Slovak media reported that the attack took place in Spisska Stara Ves, a town of 2,000 inhabitants near the Polish border, at around 1:00 p.m. local time (12:00 GMT).

Several emergency medical teams responded to the scene, according to broadcaster TA3.
