Lawyer Alex Spiro claims that many people are willing to come forward to address alleged irregularities in the rape allegations against Jay-Z.
“There are dozens and dozens of people who will say there was no party at the ‘white house,'” Spiro said. My Weekly and other reporters during a press roundtable on Monday, December 16 at the Roc Nation offices in New York City.
Spiro was referring to the alleged location where an unnamed woman, who has been referred to as Jane Doe, claimed Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs raped her at the MTV Video Music Awards after party in 2000. According to Spiro, the house in question does not exist.
Diddy and Jay-Z both turned 55 earlier this month named in a civil suit where a woman accused two rappers of raping her when she was 13 years old. The lawsuit was originally filed in October with only Diddy named in the papers, but an attorney Tony Buzbeewho represents many of the people who claim to be Diddy’s victims, refiled paperwork on Dec. 8 to include Jay-Z in the lawsuit.
Both Jay-Z and Diddy denied the allegations, and the Roc Nation founder did filed a motion to appeal civil action.
On Monday, Spiro opened the panel by stating that Jay-Z had not “raped a child” before. presentation that he detailed the alleged holes in the plaintiff’s story.
The woman applied last week acknowledge discrepancies on her account, but she stood by her claims. One of those inconsistencies is her description of the house where the incident allegedly took place. Buzbee and his team said they were trying to pinpoint the location the woman described. Spiro for his part, criticized Buzbee on Monday.
“You’re seeing here now that it’s starting to unravel and the truth is coming out, it’s starting to come away,” Spiro claimed. “He says, ‘Oh, sorry.’ This case was referred to our firm by another firm, so I wasn’t really looking into it.” That’s pretty much what he said, right? He makes such an accusation, attacks a man with Mr. Carter’s integrity, and all he has to say to himself now is, ‘Well, I really didn’t check this. I got a referral to earn some money. So we just started living it.”
Buzbee subsequently responded to Spiro’s comments in a statement Our.
“This client was registered and referred to our office by another law firm. This law firm drafted the original complaint,” he said Monday. “However, four people in our firm also interviewed the client and reviewed the details after receiving the referral. A background check has been run on the client. We also engaged an experienced investigator to verify some of the details she revealed to us. These results were consistent with what the client told us.”
Buzbee continued: “We sent a letter to Mr. Carter’s attorney and offered to sit down to discuss the claims in confidence. Instead of accepting this offer, Mr. Spiro decided to file a public lawsuit accusing me personally of extortion. He claimed this knowing that we did not ask for money at all, and that in the public domain. The case is absolutely nonsensical. Further: At least three attorneys from our office interviewed the client prior to filing an amended complaint against Mr. Carter. The client also signed two separate affidavits. Our client remains steadfast in his claim. Mr. Spiro tries to be a bully. But we will not be bullied. Our behavior has been and will continue to be beyond reproach. In due course we will highlight some of the behavior of our adversaries, which is extremely worrying.”
