Devin Haney told Teófimo López today on X, “You will get it” once he wins his May fight against José Ramírez in Times Square, Manhattan, New York, and his October rematch with Ryan García.
Haney started it off by asking him why he didn’t accept the fight with Subriel Matías, but he didn’t do it kindly. He trashed Teo’s name, calling him “TeHOE” when asked why he didn’t face powerful former IBF 140-pound champion Subriel (21-2, 21 KOs), who is no pushover for anyone in the division. It would be a nightmare for Haney.
Teófimo gave these excuses for not fighting with Matías:
If Haney can beat Ramirez and Garcia in his next two fights, a clash against Teofimo would be important if he is not defeated this year. Lopez hasn’t said who he plans to fight next, but if he faces Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, he’ll likely lose big.
He’s already having big problems just trying to beat 140-pound fighters. He was lucky in his fights against Sandor Martín and Jamaine Ortiz. Many people thought that Teofimo López would fight both fights.
Haney would be better off focusing on what he has in front of him right now: former WBC and WBO 140-pound champion Ramirez. This guy could beat Devin and ruin his October rematch with Garcia.
That fight would happen anyway, since Turki Al-Sheikh wants to organize it in Riyadh. But it would take a lot of interest out of the game if Haney loses to Ramírez. I now predict that Haney will go 0-2 in his fights in 2025 and his career will be forgotten.
Devin can still keep working if he gets promoter Eddie Hearn, who can put him in a four-fight Joshua-type rebuilding job to restore it according to the factor specifications. Let’s be real: Haney was never that good to begin with, but he did well because he faded to fight smaller, at 135, and fought the right guy initially when he moved up to 140, Regis Prograis.
You’ll get it… once I beat Ramirez and Ryan, you’ll be next… but you already knew you’re just chasing clout. https://t.co/2QXFiZSg8h
